The human nervous system is an amazing, even elegant, structure that most of us take for granted. Simply stated, it allows us to feel, move, see, hear, smile and taste. It allows us to experience pleasure, as well as pain. It is essentially the organ system that defines us as human beings. And, by and large we take it all for granted until it doesn't work as it should.

Unfortunately, there is no substitute that can replicate what the brain and the other parts of the nervous system do. When a disorder appears, that's when neurosurgery can help.

When most people hear the word "neurosurgery" they automatically think of brain surgery. However, neurosurgery encompasses far more than the brain.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of the entire nervous system, composed of the brain, spinal cord and spinal column, as well as the nerves that travel through all parts of the body (hands, legs, arms, face)
